A Rare Display
It’s raining again.
As I write this, it is Sunday afternoon and the heavy rain is still to come. Hopefully, the local rivers are low enough to resist the urge to spill over their banks.
The Truro/Bible Hill/Salmon River/North River area is used to flooding. We’ve seen more than our fair share over my lifetime. However, these past few weeks are unusual. Flooding normally comes during a winter mild spell or in the spring run-off. This time, we have been caught off-guard---twice!
There is no doubt our local mayors have been fielding many calls. Perhaps the most welcome one they received came from the premier who said he wanted to meet with them.
This past Friday, both Truro Mayor Bill Mills and Colchester Mayor Bob Taylor said their meeting earlier that day with Premier Darrell Dexter was one of the most satisfying they have ever had with a senior elected official. The mayors say the premier has a solid grasp on the problem and is going all-out to help them solve the issue.
Both mayors have been around long enough that they know sincerity when they see it. It’s a rare display of faith in the bureaucratic system, but it’s a good thing!
